ABOUT THE DATING OF BATTLE OF THE KALKА-RIVER

Abstract

Abstract. The researcher is interested in establishing an accurate chronological reconstruction of the historical event. The chronological dating of the Battle of the Kalka-river, recorded both Іn Russian and foreign sources, requires verification of its accuracy and reliability. Despite the significant amount of information, it is not possible to establish the dating of the Battle of Kalka-river due to the equal provability of the two proposed hypotheses.

The scientific research is based on the analyses of materials of Russian chronicles, European annals and Asian chronicles. The methodological basis of the research is a critical chronology, which includes comprehensive methods of historical and chronological research, covering the verification of calendar and mathematical coordination of different types of elements contained in the mentioned historical sources. In addition, the method of content analysis was applied to identify chronological features contained in the notes of historical sources, and the method of analysis of non-synchronous dating was used, based on the search and analysis of contradictory information dating the same events.
