Abstract. The article gives a brief overview of the history of the Tsaritsyno State Museum-Reserve, created at the end of the Soviet era; analyzes the ways and means of acquiring funds, the connection with the current political situation and decisions of governing bodies. Despite the short period of its existence, the museum has experienced many dramatic moments that led to a change in the most important direction of its activities – the collection and storage of significant objects of artistic and cultural heritage. The formation of a multidisciplinary collection was conditioned by the new historical reality that emerged after the collapse of the unified cultural space of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR).
The collection of decorative and applied art of the peoples of the former Soviet republics, including the Republic of Kazakhstan, is an important part of the collection and includes various types of traditional and author's art (ceramics, textiles, jewelry, art metal, wood, porcelain).
The main features and peculiarities of the collection are analyzed, the most significant and interesting items are marked; the significance and artistic quality of the collection are determined.
