EARLY 20TH-CENTURY PERIODICALS IN THE COLLECTION OF THE NATIONAL CENTRAL MUSEUM OF THE REPUBLIC OF KAZAKHSTAN: HISTORICAL MEMORY AND DOCUMENTARY HERITAGE

Abstract

Abstract. The study of periodicals of the early XX century as a means of enriching our history and their use as historical sources makes it possible to investigate this period more deeply. Publications belonging to the group of written sources, including printed publications that appeared at the beginning of the century and existed for a short or long period, contain a great deal of information related to the history of the nation.

The article considers newspapers and journals published in the early XX century as important historical sources reflecting the cultural, educational, and socio-political landscape. Particular attention is paid to their function not only as monuments of print culture but also as documentary evidence of historical events. Focusing on the national press, which became a platform for the development of public thought and discussion, the article demonstrates that preserved publications are unique monuments of cultural heritage.

Based on a review of periodicals from the early XX century preserved in the collections of the National Central Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the role of the press in covering the major events of the era, disseminating educational ideas, and shaping national identity is analyzed. Publications are regarded as an important part of the museum collection and as valuable relics. The significance of the article lies in identifying the informational potential and documentary value of articles published in the journals «Айқап», «Шолпан», «Абай» and the newspaper «Тілші» as key sources on the history of the modernization of Kazakh society. Based on the analysis, the role of periodicals in reflecting changes in the spiritual, cultural, and socio-political life of society is revealed.

The study concludes that these publications possess high scientific and historical source value. The article will be useful for researchers who have not specifically studied the Arabic alphabet (töte script) in their search for sources.
