UNKNOWN FATES: THE FATE OF THE SHAMGUNOV FAMILY DURING THE YEARS OF STALINIST REPRESSION

Abstract. One of the most tragic periods in the history of the Kazakh people in the 20th century was the years of political repression. The article examines the consequences of the repressive policy of the Soviet state, directed, in particular, against representatives of the Kazakh intelligentsia, as well as its impact on the fate of their family members and subsequent generations. Using the example of the family of Narmagambet Sutemirovich Shamgunov, a native of the Aktobe region, the tragic history of the family during the Stalinist political repressions of the 1930s is explored. The article examines the circumstances of the arrest of Narmagambet Shamgunov and Adiya Shamgunova by the NKVD, their subsequent fate, Adiya's stay in the ALZHIR and Karlag system, as well as the fate of their daughter Galiya, who was left without parents and raised by relatives. Special attention is paid to the history of the subsequent rehabilitation of family members. Based on family history, it is shown that political repression had long-term consequences not only for the repressed themselves, but also for their families and subsequent generations. At the same time, the history of children who lost their parents, but retained contact with relatives and subsequently reunited with their mother, testifies to the preservation of family solidarity, mutual assistance and human ties even in the conditions of political terror.
