HOARD OF GOLDEN HORDE DIRHAMS OF THE 13TH CENTURY FROM THE VICINITY OF THE JANKALA HILLFORT

Abstract. The aim of the work is to clarify the metrological characteristics of the dirhams of Jand of 665–668 AH. For the first time, 122 coins from a hoard were studied, part of which was examined in 2023 during a numismatic expedition of the Central State Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The author has established that the hoard was concealed no earlier than 668/1270. The coins have a diameter of ~19±2 mm. The dirhams were minted according to technical specifications that did not establish a weight standard for minting. The deviation of weight from the recorded mode of 0.6±0.075 g does not exceed ±0.25 g. We may expect the existence of another group of coins with a mode of 1.14±0.06 g. The studied coins are thus a kind of "fraction" of ½ of full-weight dirhams. It was found that in 667/1269 there was a change in the type of dirhams. At the same time, the name of the Jand mint disappeared from the coins.
