Abstract

The article, based on scientific research conducted by the author, outlines some theory and practice results obtained by him, presenting materials describing the Kazakh traditions of obtaining the first kumys, preserved in some regions of Kazakhstan to this day, in particular, in the Ulytau region of Kazakhstan.

The work focuses on the analysis of scientific research by famous scientists and foreign travelers who wrote about the traditions and main features of the functioning and life of nomadic society and the role and economic importance of the horse among nomads.  The semantic role is revealed, expressing cult ideas associated with the horse, from ancient nomadic tribes to modern Kazakhs.  The important elements of the Kazakh cultural tradition of “testing mare’s milk”, which has become part of the cultural heritage of humanity and is carried out both in natural life practice and in the festival form - the national holiday “Kymyzmuryndyk”, are also described.

Materials and research methods: the basis of the scientific work was both expedition materials and data confirmed by local communities on the preserved and practiced traditions of tying a mare and drinking real natural pure mare’s milk, making the national drink “Kymyz” and other traditional practices, as well as dossier materials, prepared for inclusion of the Kazakh holiday “Kymyzmuryndyk” in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Heritage of Humanity.
